Scaling Production with Speedpack 400 Hybrid

The Customer's Challenge

Our customer, a manufacturer in the medical sector, required a bagging and sealing solution that would streamline their operations and increase their throughput.

Their existing operation relied on manual bagging with one product inserted into each bag. This labour-intensive approach was inefficient and restricted their ability to scale and respond to growing market demand. With concerns over material usage from a cost and sustainability point of view, the customer also wanted to explore strategies to reduce the volume of film consumed.

The Brief

To source, supply and install a flexible bagging and sealing system, with a throughout of 10 bags per minute.

The customer required a machine that would integrate fully into their production line and that would facilitate bags being filled by a robotic arm. The finished pack would also require direct printing to include a logo, production dates, and batch numbers for full traceability.

The Solution

Considering these requirements, our customers’ existing operational capacity, and the opportunities for future expansion, we proposed the Speedpack 400 Hybrid from Audion.

This machine is a highly effective bagging and sealing solution. It ticks all the boxes in terms of performance and flexibility and enables the customer to process both tubular film and bags on a roll.

Our customer has made the switch from bags to tubular film. With the Speedpack 400, bag length can be adjusted at the touch of a button, allowing our customer to pack products of different sizes without the need to change the material roll. Downtime associated with changeovers is eliminated, and as the right sized package is always used, material waste and cost per bag also decrease.

A key benefit of this Speedpack is its adaptability and versatility with over 110 custom options available. This was an important factor in our choice, as it allowed us to work with our customer to develop a custom solution that exactly matched their requirements.

The following key features were included in our customer’s Speedpack 400 Hybrid.

  • Handshake: To enable communication with automatic infeed systems, in this case to liaise with a robotic arm for automatic filling.
  • Printer: To facilitate direct printing onto the tubing during the packing process, simplifying the workflow and improving efficiency.
  • Special Hopper: To allow controlled feeding into the bagging system, and to count the product being packed.
  • External Arm: To allow easy access to the control panel.
  • Air Press Device: To remove excess air from the package, reducing overall pack size for compact storage and efficient shipping.

The Result

A throughput of 10 bags per minute has been realised by the Speedpack 400, and with the machine operating on a 24/7 basis, productivity has been significantly increased.

The inclusion of key features such as the integrated printer, handshake and hopper, has simplified the workflow, streamlining operations to further enhance overall efficiency.

Making the switch from a bag to a tube, has resulted in a decrease in material usage of 35%, with related cost savings and sustainability gains.

A Partnership Approach

Our relationship with this customer extends well beyond the installation of their Speedpack 400 Hybrid. We continue to support the customer’s operation with a reliable supply of high-quality LDPE tubular film and packaging consumables, helping to ensure consistent performance and uninterrupted production.

Our engineering team also provide a custom service plan. Regular servicing by our Audion trained engineers, ensures the performance of this Speedpack 400 Hybrid and keeps downtime to an absolute minimum.
